September 17

Numerous Kings spotted in the creek this morning.  Similar program to last weekends, 10 fow and west to Newmans point. J plugs and firetiger Thuindersticks off the planers boards, riggers, and 2-3 color cores.

September 11

The Kings are staging and they are in close. Fished the shallows (14 fow and east of the creek) this am looking for mature kings.  J plugs off the planers boards, riggers, and 2-3 color cores.

September 4

Woke up to thunderstorms and high winds on Sunday morning which kept us dockside till about 7. We headed west again today but stopped at Devils nose and setup. We were hoping to find our screen from the day before but we all know how things change overnight. We had a tough time the first half of the morning finding a fishable screen, cold water ,or active fish. It wasnt until 1100 the winds died, the lake layed down and we had some cold water start to roll in. 105 fow was the best screen we found all morning and quickly started to pull mature Kings and steelhead from it. Flasher/fly bite was on today. Green dot SD, Green Halo SD, green/ crush on green Smartfish, and white dbl crush Smartfish all with a mix of flies deployed off Blood Run 300' coppers, 200 & 250 divers, 75' rigger. The only spoon to fire for us was a glow gator stingray off the 90 rigger which fired 4 times. After the worst early morning start of the season were ended up with 10 bites with the big fish of the day 20# and 21# Kings.

September 3

Left the dock Saturday and headed west. We shut down and setup around Bald Eagle and trolled west. Great picture in 60-80 fow all day but it took us a little bit to get them figured out. A few shots off spin doctors and flies but for the most part it was a spoon bite. Divers w/ green halo Spin Doctor/ flies 120 & 144. Blood Run 300' copper w/ white double crush Smartfish. 10 color cores and riggers loaded with a mix of spoons. Ended up 12 for 15 w/ some small kings, a few matures and an 11# Brown for our efforts.

August 27

It was tough not to fish the inside screen this morning. Inside of 100 fow was absolutely loaded with hooks and bait, so we spent the morning chasing fish inside. After a slow start and an almost nonexistent shallow King bite, we quickly changed gears and snuck into 65-70 fow and targeted Browns. Riggers 50, 50, 60, & 70', 10 color cores, 300' coppers, and divers 100-150' all loaded with spoons, all got bites. NBKs, orange dot, mixed veggie, fruitcake, orange NBK, black fin, green dolphin to name a few. We did dump a major off a 300' copper in which a tight drag led to a bent over hook. Multiple doubles today but also alot of dropped fish. Half of the fish we hooked into we dumped. We just couldnt keep them on. 20+ bites but only half made it to the net. The ones we did net, fell off in the boat. Down temp was critical for us today and finding and targeting cold pockets of water in 65-70 fow was key for us because temps were all over the place in there. Nothing over 10# for us this morning but still a bunch of fat Brownies.

August 14

Southern wind overnight sucked some cold water inside for us on Sunday morning. Great screen in 90-110 fow and we spent the majority of the morning in that water. Spin Doctors off the divers saw some good action today but the Blood Run 450’ copper was king today loaded w/ a white double crush glow Smartfish and a Legacy Fly. Spoons off the riggers took their fair share of fish also. Majority of the bite came deeper than 80’ today with a mix of Kings and Steelhead.

August 13

Lots of warm water inside led us to search out the offshore bite. North/south trolls in 350-450 fow put fish in the boat for us this morning. Majority of the catch was Kings with a couple of Steelhead mixed in. Most of our action came from around 90’ down with our junk rods loaded with a mix of Spin Doctors and flies and a mix of spoons off the riggers.

August 6, 2011

During the week, east winds started to push cold water west and by Friday morning the lake had flipped. Ice water led us to search out warm water off shore and 400-500 fow in front of Braddocks Bay is where we found it. Tons of bait offshore along with a mix of Steelhead and Kings. A solid pick all morning of small Kings off spoons on the riggers 45-90’ down but we also pulled a 20# and 21# off the divers pulling spin doctors and flies.

July 31

Spent the morning out front in 85-95 fow fishing an incredible screen. Lots of bait and lots active fish on the screen had us working that depth for the entire morning. A slow pick of big Browns, Cohos, and small Kings kept us busy for the day.

Sandy Creek Shootout July 23

With the Sandy Creek Shootout planned for Saturday, I headed down to the boat late in the afternoon on friday to get the boat ready. I wasnt planning on fishing but I was inspired by the amount of activity in Sandy Creek on a friday afternoon. From dockside I saw alot of guys, that were fishing in the tourny, headed out or headed in from prefishing. So we left port and headed out to "spot" check some water. We motored to Devil's Nose and setup in 50fow and trolled north in search of a screen. We found some active fish, a mix of bait, good hooks in 90- 120, and a down temp break in 130 fow and so we knew what our starting spot would be saturday morning. Plan A. We headed north looking for a deeper screen and found it between 180- 240fow. Some fish and zero bait but either way we had a Plan B. We tested a few baits in the process of looking at water and couldnt keep the 300' Blood Run copper with a Spin Doctor and a martini fly in the water.
Saturday morning we left the dock at 445, headed to our water, setup, and trolled it west to Eagle Creek. The screen was almost void of big hooks and bait but we worked what we did have for half the morning. Not till the sun came up did the action improve. Fighting through the dinks on the riggers (loaded with NK mag Spoons), we did managed to put a couple of fish in the box including an 11#+ Steelhead (fish #1) and a couple of small Kings. 140' divers and 300' coppers with SD/fly. The lack of big fish forced us out to look at different and deeper water. 220 fow (fish #2) and 185 fow (fish #3) both put teen Kings in the cooler for us but the choice to pound waypoints proved again to be a mistake. A concistant big fish bite was no where to be found for us. Late morning I made the decision to move back in and drop in the shallow water again for another look. We could maximize our fishing time, hopefully find our screen from the night before, and take advantage of the late morning bite. We managed to find our best screen of the day in 85- 100 fow and pulled a 27# King (fish #4) from that water. Spin Doctor and flies were the ticket for us today. The BR 300' coppers were both pulling gator SD w/ Martini flies. The diver were pulling Captain Valium SDs with Legacy Flies. The riggers took 3 good hits (which I personally dumped) off the riggers off a NK mag green/ glow alewife along with a few Steelhead and alot of dinks. We had 35-40 total hits so the fishing for the most part was great.
The weigh in resulted in Team Legacy in third place (with 70# of fish and 110.5 points) following Team Yankee Troller in 2nd and Team Trout-n-About in 1st.

Here are the results.

Trout n About- 115.58

July 15

Snuck out last night for a few hours and it was well worth it. Good mix of kings and steelies right out front in 170-190 fow 55-90' down. riggers with green dot NK mags, and the divers and coppers loaded with Spin Doctors and a mix of flies. Great class of steelies 7-10# and the kings were also about the same size with one 24#. Temp was 59 degrees down 50 but the majority of the fish came from the 40s with 44 degrees down 90'. Overall reports from the creek for the past couple of weeks have been incredible! Hoping to see some good boxes at the shootout in a week!

Wayne County Pro Am- July 16-17

A great day 1, unfortunately led us to a bad day 2 as we finished in 26th overall in this weekends event. In the ProAm east end cup standings we finished 14th and in the Lake Wide Challenge cup we finished in 8th place overall.

Oswego County Pro Am- July 9-10

A good bite this weekend led to a good box of Kings and Browns and an 8th place finish in the 3rd ProAm event of the year.

June 26

Anticipating the western blow, we headed west out of port and set up in front of the park inside of 100 fow with hopes to ride the current back home later in the morning. The current was strong out of the west and was a struggle to get speed right all day. The riggers spent the day loaded with spoons and DW ss green halo down 50' was the first to fire and put a 21# king in the boat for us. Next the 300' Blood Run copper dragging a green dot Spinny w/ a Legacy fly starts screaming and puts another low 20s King in the boat. The deep rigger dragging a Stinger stingray along the bottom put a pile of Lake Trout in the boat and kept Hunter busy this morning (resulting in a 1.5 hour nap when we got home). As the morning went on the flasher/fly bite really turned on for us. 150' wire diver w/ a green halo Spinny, 300' copper w/ green halo spinny, 300' copper w/ green dot Spinny, and 160' wire diver w/ a

green crush Smartfish all took fish for us this am. Lots of 50 degree water out there with some bait inside of 90 fow. We fished as far west as Devils Nose and ended east of the "can". West of port (where down temp was 5 degrees colder) and 75-85 fow was, by far, the best for us today. Fish were not hooking up real well today, and as a result we dropped 7 fish this morning including 4 good kings.

June 19

Decent reports of mixed bags and numbers from Saturday out of the creek. Sunday morning we had hoped the east winds hadnt screwed things up too bad. We found a fishable screen w/ bait and hooks in 60-100 fow (w/ 74 fow being our best). The day started with mix of browns and skippy kings until mid morning when the laker spoon bite just ignited. A mix of DW ss and Stinger spoons off the riggers, 10 color core, and the divers produced around 22 bites. All which kept my son busy this fathers day morning. No Lake Trout in all of the lake was safe from him this morning.

June 11-12 Orleans County Proam

The next event in the series is the Orleans County event. With the solid fishing to the west from last weekend 95% of the teams headed west to find the hot King bite. With Oak Orchard being so close to my team’s homeport we headed towards are home waters with a plan to box our 12 fish limit. Day 1 ended with a full box mix of Kings, Lakers, Browns, and Steelhead. Our box also contained some real beauties for the day including a 17# Lake Trout, 11# Steelhead, and 13.5# Brown. The weigh in left us in 3rd place after the first day. On Sunday we stuck to our plan and headed east to our waters with the same goal to box out. By 1230 we were headed in with our full box along with a trophy 20# Steelhead. The weigh in led us to a 2nd place finish overall with 417.74 total points. We also placed 6th overall in the west end challenge cup.

June 4-5 Niagara County Proam
I teamed up this year with Capt Jerry Feluca, Capt Larry Lapa, and Capt Pat Pullinzi of team Runnin Rebel for this year’s Lake Ontario ProAm series and the first stop is the Niagara County event. Prefishing determined that this year’s tournament was in the midst of a hot King bite and that big kings were needed to place. Landing on the right class of fish was going to determine this weekends winner for sure. Fishing out of Olcott, day 1 we left the dock and headed in the direction of Wilson in search of the waypoints from earlier in the week. Incredible fishing with lots of small fish (throwbacks) led to a long day on the water but by the end of the day we were dockside with our limit of 12 fish and in the middle of the pack. Sunday led us to a lot of the same action that we had seen on Saturday. Our catch was dominated by Kings with a hot rigger bite with a mix of Stinger and Dreamweaver spoons. By tournaments end we had boxed our limit of fish but ended up in 30th position.

May 22
Left the dock this morning and trolled due north, right out of the pier heads. The plan was to find slowly head offshore and hopefully find a deeper water bite. 2 riggers slowly became 4 riggers, a mix of stickbaits off the boards, and even a 8 color core down the chute. On the way out we boated 1 laker which took a stickbait off the board. After giving it a fair shot for 2+ hours, seeing very few fish, zero bait on the screen, and lots ice cold water we abandoned the deeper water and headed in tight. The inside waters have been very good to us and today wouldnt be any different. The mud plume just in front of the creek seemed to be loaded with fish and gave us some good action including multiple doubles. The second half of the morning produced a couple steelhead, 3 Atlantics, and a half a dozen Browns for us. A mix of sticks off the boards (with pink and chart the 2 best colors) and Blood Run Fluoro loaded with DW ss green halo and green dolphin 6' down on the riggers did all the work.

Update
Legacy Sportfishing would like to welcome aboard Okuma with our latest partnership. This year we will begin running Okuma reels and Okuma rods exclusively and we are looking for forward to putting their product to work on Lake Ontario.

May 8
On Sunday morning we were joined by my 8 year old son. The obvious goal of the day was to put some fish on for him to fight, so we followed the plan the has done so well for us this year. We pounded the inside water (10-25 fow) for over 2 hours before we were rewarded our 1st fish of the day. Once again a small section (1/2 mile) of water in front of the creek in 8-9 fow produced all of the fish for us. 12# Blood Run Fluoro pulling a Stinger green dolphin and Dreamweaver SS NBK 6' down off the riggers saw the majority of the action, with each taking 3 browns, and a small black/ silver stick off the boards also took 2 browns.

May 7

With the great fishing the past couple of weeks we headed out Saturday and fished the shallows right out front of the creek. We have been spoiled by incredible fishing lately but this weekend proved to be a tougher bite then what we have had. Best water for us was a mile stretch east of the creek in 10 fow. 12# Blood Run Fluoro pulling a mix of sticks off the boards (black/silver, yellow/silver, chart/ green) and off the riggers a Stinger green dolphin and Dreamweaver SS NBK 6' down all took fish. We boated 1 small King, 1 Coho, and 5 Browns. After spending about 3 hours inside we headed out deeper to look at some different water offshore. We headed north out to 60 fow without finding a fishable screen or moving a rod and called it a day by 10am. As the shallow bite seems to be fading the water offshore seems to be setting up nicely.

May 1
Took the day off from fishing to enjoy a day in the woods to pursue the "ever elusive" wild turkey. Lots of action at first light and straight from the roost. Had a few hens pass through the decoys with at least 5 jakes. Very surprised to not see any big toms in the group. Not the big guy I was in search of but success none the less.

First King of 2011

Our April 30 trip led us to our first King (14.6#) of the 2011 season!

April 30
4 hour trip on saturday lead to a Lake Ontario super slam boating a King, Laker, Brown, Coho, Steelhead, Atlantic, and a bonus smallmouth. A great mix of fish led to a crazy spring morning (to say the least) with 40+ bites and 30+ fish landed. 10 fow and we were never far too from home (Newmans Point to Cowsucker Creek). 12 # Blood Run fluoro leaders w/ DW ss off the riggers and a mix sticks off the boards did all the damage. 2-2.2 gps and trolling direction (east or west) didnt seem to matter.

April 24
Mother nature put us a little behind schedule this year but finally dropped the boat in the water for the season on friday. Sunday afternoon conditions seemed perfect for a shakedown cruise and of course get a few lines wet. We did a little housekeeping on board including loading up the rods with 12# Blood Run Fluorocarbon leaders. Leaving the pier heads I noticed a big "chocolate milk" plume out of the mouth and as far as the eye can see to the east and alot of fishable green water every where. After a quick boat ride we snuck into 10 fow and setup. Our first fish of the season was on before the line even made it into the release. We spent about 3 hours working a half mile section west of the plume. Solid action off the boards and the stickbaits color or size didnt seem to matter. The riggers were firing with a DW ss nbk and a Stinger black fin. The bite was mostly Browns with 5 Lakers and 4 Cohos mixed in. We landed 23, lost a few in the prop wash, and also had a few knock offs. Couldnt asked for a better shakedown!

Tackle Update

This year Legacy Sportfishing will be running numerous products from Blood Run Tackle including their "super copper", 7 strand wire, and fluorocarbon leader line. Take a minute and check them out!

March 20

The ice is gone and spring is here! The boat is out of storage and Im looking forward to getting her back in the water. We have some new equipment to install, including 4 Cannon downriggers. We just need some warm temps to clean up the boat and to get a coat of wash on it. Looking forward to another season of chasing fish on Lake Ontario!

2011 LOTSA SALMON SPECTACULAR WEEKEND

LOTSA SALMON CLINICS/ EXPO/ FLEA MARKET

Sodus Bay February 24
Hot bite this morning on
Sodus Bay! Lots of keeper perch and lots of action. Fishing in 30'+ with fatheads on tip downs and jigging rods were the ticket today.

Ice Report February 16

Hit the ice this morning on Braddock's Bay and after 1 1/2 hours without icing a fish, we decided it was time for a big move. We headed over to Long Pond where we were immediately gifted with perch action. We had a steady pick going until about 2 pm when we ended our day. Our result was about 40 keepers in the bucket and most of the action from the tip downs.

Irondequoit Bay February 13

Fished one of the smaller inlet bays along Irondequiot bay today in search of perch. Many small perch caught today with very few keepers. Largemouth bass kept me busy though jigging up 11 total along with a bunch of gills and seeds.

Avon Anglers- Honeoye Lake Tournament February 5
Today I fished the Honeoye Lake tournament hosted by Avon Anglers. There are 4 divisions in this tournament including Bass, Perch, Bluegill, And Walleye. I spent the day fishing the deep water which resulted in a tough day for me with the Perch and Bluegills but was rewarded with 3 place finish in the Bass division. Avon Anglers Link

Avon Anglers- Silver Lake Tournament January 22
The Avon Angler's Silver Lake tournament provided some of the best ice fishing ive ever seen on the lake. Pike, Perch, And Bluegill were the targets in the tourny today. I concentrated my efforts, sight fishing and jigging the shallows for Bluegills resulting in a solid 6th place fisnish in the division. Avon Anglers Link
Conesus Lake January 15

Headed to Vitale park with a four man crew today in search of some big Conesus Lake Bluegills and Pike. While the pike action was extremely slow for us, the Bluegill action was intense. Hundreds of gills and seeds iced today including a pile to bring home.
